Black Lives Matter

Following the 2013 acquittal of George Zimmerman (the man who killed 17-year old Florida teen Trayvon Martin) community organizers Alicia Garza, Patrisse Cullors, and Opal Tometi created the social media hashtag #BlackLivesMatter and ignited a movement to protest and address incidents of police brutality and racially motivated violence against Black people in the United States. In the years following, Black Lives Matter (BLM) grew into a decentralized political and social movement with national significance. This guide aims to bring together information and resources about the BLM Movement and its history.

A TED Talk interview with the founders of Black Lives Matter: Alicia Garza, Patrisse Cullors, and Opal Tometi.
