Abby Williams Hill: Artist and Advocate

This digital teaching collection focuses on the life and work of Abby Williams Hill (1861-1943), a landscape painter who lived in Tacoma, Washington.

Instructions for Viewing Hill's Journals

It is recommended that students look at the original handwritten journals, but it will be easiest for them to quickly read the content by looking at the typed transcription. A full transcription of each journal is available as the last “page” of each digitized journal (see example here). The typed transcription can be downloaded for your students by clicking on the red download button next to the printer button on the right side of the screen. A transcript of each page can also be viewed on the screen, directly below the handwritten page (see example here). Note the word “transcript” in red directly below the image. If no transcript appears, click the red arrow to the left of the word and the transcript window will open.
